Gambling on Community: Berndawgler Builds in web3
Rug Radio's new community and collabs manager talks Rug Radio, Rektguy, Roasting, and a pup with a famous name.
Berndawgler’s support for web3 communities that bring value to the space has helped those groups thrive. And with his upcoming Rug Roast show on Rug Radio, we’re about to learn how he and co-host OG vet successful projects with a dose of humor! Learn more about Berndawgler in this interview with WagginWendy.
What drew you to Rug Radio initially? Can you tell me about your involvement in the project and your new position as community and collabs manager?
I was drawn to Rug Radio during the mint of the membership pass. I joined the spaces as a complete newb and heard Farokh's energy . . . and was able to mint. I joined the Discord and finally found a group of people that knew what they were doing in the space.
From here, I saw OSF and Mando in the Discord chat . . . then a Tweet about Rug Radio from Mando. In this tweet, he mentioned Degenz and I quickly joined there. Mando and OSF gave me an opportunity as a mod, then community manager. During this time, I was active in Rug Radio and accumulating the project the whole time.
Recently, I was given the opportunity to join Rug Radio and immediately accepted as the team and project are amazing. What other project has an ACTUAL business that is producing revenue along with massive potential growth? My role is to manage Discord and vet collab partners to ensure we are offering quality opportunities to the community — a pretty flexible role as we are all managing a heavy workload.
Aside from Rug Radio, what are a couple of your favorite NFT projects and your outlook for their growth? I see from Twitter that you’re a Rektguy fan!
YES - Rektguy for sure, Degenz as well . . . I think this is overlooked heavily. I'm obviously biased, lol, but I'm in these projects and working for them for a reason. The leaders are actual good people and they are really smart, finding ways to bring actual value rather than pumping more jpegs out.
Aside from this, I like mfers, Chimpers, bytegans, Deck of Degeneracy (I love poker), anything Yuga, Punks, and collecting some art as well. I probably missed some projects but off the top of my head, I'm bullish on these.
When and how did you get involved in web3? Did you have a tech background?
No tech background at all, lol. I'm a sales guy. I just saw a lot of media attention on NFTs and web3. I faded it all . . . not that I was against it, I was just too lazy. Then, I read the book "The Infinite Machine" by Camila Russo. This made me really bullish on crypto and ETH especially. I joined by playing with some of the ponzi OHM fork daos . . . actually did okay here. Then I stumbled my way into NFT Twitter and found Rug Radio pretty early. I'm definitely not an OG as I joined around December 2021.
You’re going to be hosting a new Rug Radio show called Rug Roast -- what’s the concept for the show and when can we tune in?
Rug Roast is a show where we have projects come on, share a bit about them, and then my co-host, OG, and I rate the projects on a scale of 1-10. We will eventually have giveaway opportunities here. Some, very very few projects, will have an opportunity to give out allow list spots to Rug Radio/Degenz. The show will be funny and informative. We will give people a look inside how we evaluate projects to make good decisions.
Rug Roast starts on April 7th and will air Fridays at 2PM EST.
What are your favorite non-web3 interests/ hobbies?
I like golf, fishing, gambling (lol), spending time with my family, and watching sports. I'm a fan of the Michigan State Spartans, Go Green.
Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and do you want to share a pic?
I have a dog, his name is Tom Izzo - but for short we call him Bobo!
It’s a true MSU fan that names their dog after a long-time MSU basketball coach! And, we’re fortunate that Berndawgler’s been a Rug Radio fan and supporter since the project’s early days. Thanks, Berndawgler, for giving us the opportunity to get to know you better.
